My First Podcast Interview Is Live
Opening up about bipolar disorder, “midnight centuries” and healing through sport on Right In Front Of My Face
Hey TBA Crew –
Breaking from my usual Wednesday routine to share something special—my first podcast interview (as a guest) just went live.
I sat down with Shannon Hull, host of Right In Front Of My Face, to talk candidly about my lived experience with bipolar disorder. I’ll be honest—I was pretty nervous at first.I shared things I’ve never opened up about publicly. But Shannon created such a thoughtful, supportive space that it naturally turned into a very comfortable and meaningful conversation.
We talked about the hard stuff—moments of shame and embarrassment that can come with mental breakdowns—but also about redemption. And about the ways I’ve worked to transform those challenges into strengths through endurance sports, writing, learning the craft of performance coaching, and working as a pediatrician in both the clinic and health tech startups.
Most importantly, we explored the deeper mission behind The Balanced Athlete—and why this community matters.

If you have 100 friends, you have a friend with bipolar. Yet it remains one of the most isolating illnesses—because of stigma.
If this conversation resonates, I’d be grateful if you shared it with someone who might feel less alone hearing it.
As always, feel free to reach out—comment below or reply to this email. I’d love to hear what you think.
Amidst the imbalance… strive for balance.

PS If you didn’t get a chance to check out this week’s TBA post Let The Healing Flow it’s an important one to me. The Flow state is where I experienced much of the healing I spoke about with Shannon on this podcast.
